This story takes place chronologically after Code Lyoko season 4. Code Lyoko Evolution never happened. I personally disliked this "sequel" and in my mind it’s non-Canon.
Canon divergence can occur and the story has more elements of Code Lyoko than Mega Man X.
No knowledge of these universes is necessary to follow the plot. On that note, have a good read.
Dear Diary,
I never thought I'd write (or rather type) a diary on my laptop, but with everything that's been going on lately, it's for the best.
My name is Aelita. I'm not going to beat around the bush. X.A.N.A. is back. We destroyed him, though.
X.A.N.A. is a virus, an artificial intelligence wanting to dominate the world. At first, he was stuck on the Lyoko’s virtual world, but he was able to free himself and flees to the net. The internet if you prefer. After many journeys and battles, my friends and I defeated and destroyed him. Or so we thought.
I should tell you about them, dear diary, but that's not the primary reason you were created. Briefly, there's Jeremy. He's... He's my boyfriend. Then there's Odd, Ulrich, Yumi and... William. Although William has been freed from X.A.N.A.'s grasp (it's a long story!), Ulrich is suspicious of him. Jeremy seems to avoid him. Yumi barely speaks to him and Odd, well, he's humorous as always. Odd is a jokester by nature.
I think it is unfair to treat him this way. Yes, William caused us a lot of trouble, but he was controlled by X.A.N.A. Jeremy doesn't want him to be part of the Lyoko Warriors again. I am trying to change his mind, without success.
Anyway, the reason you exist, dear diary, is to help me better understand what is happening to me. You see, since X.A.N.A. came back, strange things have been occurring to me. I think I see things, like visions but only for a moment, like a flash. I get headaches a lot and I've fainted in gym class!
Yumi suggested I write a diary. She is so kind. I can always confide in her. Anyway, here we go, dear diary. You, me, and telling the past. Well, I have to get back to class. I'll see you later.
Dear Diary,
I started seeing blurry during my math class. I asked Mrs. Meyer to go to the nurse's office, without saying exactly why, and on the way my eyesight returned to normal. Other than that, no other incidents occurred. Jeremy was worried about me, but I reassured him with a lame excuse. I hate to lie to him, but I don't want to worry him until I know exactly what is happening to me.
Anyway, I have to tell you everything from the beginning. One Friday (I'm sure it was a Friday), the college computer system went crazy. I study at Kadic College, by the way. Jeremy thought it was a simple hacker, but when Odd and William told him they saw the X.A.N.A. sigil appearing, in a flash, on computer screens, he had to know for sure.
We then went back to the old disused factory as soon as we were in the clear. Ulrich didn't want William to come but he was so insistent that Jeremy ordered Ulrich to leave him alone. He didn't want those two to start a fight. Since Ulrich and William are already rivals in love for Yumi... But shhh! Keep that to yourself, dear diary.
To get to the factory, we use a secret passage in the sewers that leads us directly to a bridge and right in front of the factory. There is a manhole in Kadic College’s big park. We take it all the time to get to the factory.
When we have entered the factory, on the main floor, we go down a little further using ropes that hang from the ceiling, then Jeremy calls the elevator (a freight elevator). To use it, we have to enter a security code. Thanks to the elevator, we can go to the factory’s secret lower floors.
To explain it simply: the ground floor = the main floor. Basement 1 = the lab with the scanners' control on a computer interface and with other functions. Basement 2 = the scanner room that we use to virtualize on Lyoko. Basement 3 = the supercomputer room.
We take the elevator and go to the supercomputer room. Jeremy then asks who want the honor of turning it back on, since we turned it off with the (presumed) destruction of X.A.N.A. No one said a word, although I think William had meant to say something, so Jeremy raised the lever. We watched as the hatch opened and the supercomputer slowly came out, before it completely popped out, turned on and "came to life."
Then we took the elevator back to the lab. Jeremy, back in his element, sat in a large chair, resembling a dentist's chair, and began typing on the computer interface.
This interface consists of four flat-screen monitors and a keyboard. There is the main screen, which is very large, and the other three are smaller. They "surround" the main screen, with one on the left, one on the right, and one above it. The computer interface also has a CD and DVD player.
Soon, the holomap appeared. It is a digital map in a globe shape. It displays the different Lyoko's Sectors, namely the Forest, the Desert, the Ice, the Mountain and Sector 5, where the virtual world’s Heart is located.
Jeremy looks at the holomap steadily as he continues to type. Ulrich asks him if he notices anything suspicious. For the moment, nothing, but then a familiar sound is heard from the interface. A Tower is activated in the Desert sector! Jeremy is confused. The Super Scan should have detected it long before now. No matter. The Lyoko Warriors have to get back to work, virtualize on Lyoko, and it's up to me to deactivate the Tower.
An activated Tower means one thing: X.A.N.A. is back. We were stunned. How could he survive? Then his "attack" at Kadic College is very strange. Usually, X.A.N.A. targets us and tries to eliminate us. But here, nothing. No people possessed by X.A.N.A., no electrical objects trying to attack us... Nothing!
Well, it's getting late. I have to do my homework and go to bed soon. More tomorrow, dear diary!
Dear Diary,
I got up very early this morning, so I have time to continue telling you about our discovery of X.A.N.A.’s return.
Let's summarize: After the college computer system went crazy, we went to the factory, turned the supercomputer back on, then we had gone to the lab, where the computer interface and the holomap are located, and a Tower was activated on the Desert sector! X.A.N.A., our sworn enemy, is back.
Yumi tells Jeremy that she's ready to "dive." The word "dive" here means "to dive to Lyoko", i.e. to virtualize in the virtual world. Ulrich is also ready. So is Odd, and he is even excited to return to Lyoko. I'm always ready to dive. As for William, he wants to help us, but Jeremy refuses to let him virtualize.
I remember the exchange that followed. Dear diary, here is a transcript.
Jeremy: "No, William. I'm sorry, but you can't go to Lyoko. Not right now."
William: "And why not? I can fight X.A.N.A.’s monsters just fine!"
Jeremy: "But—"
Ulrich: "Are you kidding? After you let X.A.N.A. possess you like a moron, you think—"
William: "Shut up, will you? This is between Jeremy and I."
Ulrich: "Shut up yourself!"
Yumi: "Hey, this is no time to argue!"
Odd: "Yeah, we've got monsters to kill and a Tower to deactivate!"
Aelita: "William, please stay with Jeremy this time."
William: "But—!"
Aelita: "If we need help then you can dive. Do you agree, Jeremy?"
Jeremy, wanting to avoid wasting any time bickering, nods. William, then, starts looking at the floor. He’s still angry.
So, Odd, Ulrich, Yumi and I take the elevator again to go to the scanner room. They are very tall, cylindrical in shape and three in number. Since there are four of us, three of us have to dive in first, and the remaining person virtualizes afterwards. The scanners open automatically when a person is within reach, but they only close again when Jeremy starts the virtualization procedure.
Wanting to avoid a "surprise attack" on Lyoko, and as I am the only one who can deactivate a Tower, Odd, Ulrich and Yumi dive in before me. When my turn comes, I enter a scanner. It closes behind me. I close my eyes as a powerful wave of energy raises my hair and moves my clothes slightly. My body seems to levitate, spinning around, and then I feel a shockwave as my body disintegrates and reappears on Lyoko as my virtual avatar.
Yes, dear diary, on Lyoko we all have a virtual form. Mine gives me pointy ears, a small earring, a skin-tight outfit in two shades of pink with long fingerless gloves, a mini skirt and translucent shoulder pads, and a bracelet on my wrist with a star. Ulrich's avatar is a yellow and brown skin-tight jumpsuit, inspired by the samurais. He also wears a yellow bandana. Yumi's avatar is also a tight-fitting outfit. Brown and fuchsia color inspired by ninjas. Odd's avatar is purple and he looks like a "cat boy". He has cat ears, tail, claws...
We also have weapons, of course. Odd has his laser arrows, Ulrich has his two katanas, Yumi has her tessen boomerang fans. I have my energy fields. Although I think this is more of a "power" than a weapon. They are pink colored energy balls that I can use offensively and defensively.
But back to the important part. After I was virtualized, I joined Odd, Ulrich and Yumi, who were a little further away. They are watching the activated Tower, with its Red Aura.
Lyoko Towers have auras to symbolize their status. Before, the colors were as follows: Blue Aura = the Tower is deactivated after an attack by X.A.N.A. or it is inactive. Red Aura = the Tower is activated by X.A.N.A. White Aura = the Tower was activated by my father, now deceased. I must tell you about him one day, dear diary. Green Aura = the Tower is activated by Jeremy. He activates Towers very, very rarely. Teal Aura = a Way Tower, a special tower that allows travel from one Sector to another. Now the auras have changed a bit due to the destruction and recreation of Lyoko. (Another long story!) The Green and Red Auras are still there, but the Blue and Teal Auras are replaced by the White Auras, already present.
Anyway, the activated tower is about 200 meters from us. No sign of monsters. This isn't normal. X.A.N.A. usually sends us a welcoming committee. While Odd is planning to make a joke about it, monsters appear, but it is only a group of Kankrelats (5 in total). Odd bursts out laughing when he sees them. After all, among X.A.N.A.’s monsters, the Kankrelats are the weakest and the easiest to defeat.
Jeremy's voice warns us to be careful though. He can communicate with us as long as he has access to the Lyoko's UI. Odd doesn't listen to him. He nonchalantly goes to the Kankrelats and eliminates them all with his laser arrows. Odd signals for us to join him. I hear Jeremy sigh. Seeing no other enemies in sight, we join him and move quickly toward the Tower.
I was about 100 meters away from it when something appears. Well, it's a blue, black and yellow robot with a red eye, but X.A.N.A. has never sent us this creature before. Odd tells us that he was going to tear it apart when the robot fires a laser. Odd gets hit. Jeremy's voice says, in a panic, that the Lyoko Warrior lost more than half of his HP all at once. We all have 100 HP. Odd had time to ask how this was possible, then another attack from the blue, black and yellow robot devirtualizes him.
Yumi then tries to attack it from a distance with her fans, but her weapons have no effect on this new enemy. Ulrich uses his Super Sprint (his ability to run very, very fast) to fight it in close combat. Unfortunately, his katanas does nothing to the robot and Ulrich is quickly devirtualized.
Yumi tells me that she will distract the robot while I go to the Tower. Jeremy's voice tells us that he is going to send William as a backup. William must be very happy to hear that. I then use my star bracelet to make my energy wings appear. Pink in color, they allow me to fly and it is much easier to avoid enemy attacks with them.
I fly up and take a quick look at Yumi. She dodges the robot's lasers by doing pirouettes. I fly towards the tower. I land near its entrance, my wings disappear, and I'm about to enter when I feel something hit me. The robot's laser. I turn around abruptly. There is no trace of Yumi (she must have been devirtualized) and the robot is preparing to fire again. Jeremy and I scream at the same time, the robot fires its laser... but it doesn't hit me.
For a moment, something appeared to block it. Long blond hair tied in a ponytail, a red armor. That's all I could see, before the thing turned into a red energy ball. The ball moves away and the robot follows it with its eyes. I take advantage of this distraction to enter the Tower.
I hear Jeremy sigh with relief. I also hear William ask him if he should confront the robot. Jeremy replies "no". After all, the Tower will soon be deactivated.
I step onto the lower platform and it gradually lights up as I reach its center. A blue aura surrounds me and my body rises to the upper platform. It is smaller than the lower one. On this other platform, I go to its center, where there is an interface, a small blue screen, and I put my hand on it. My handprint appears, followed by "AELITA" and the word "CODE". I enter the Code LYOKO and I feel the Tower deactivate.
Jeremy plans to devirtualize me when William tells him to wait. Something is wrong. The robot is still there and the tower now has a Green and Purple Aura. Yet Jeremy doesn't detect anything on his end. Neither the robot nor the still activated Tower. He orders me to stay in the Tower, but I don't listen. I leave the Tower and the robot, which had stayed close, wants to target me. I reappear my pink wings, fly away and turn around the tower, avoiding its lasers. I notice that William approaches it for a distraction.
His virtual avatar is the one he had before falling into X.A.N.A.'s grip but with different colors. Before, his futuristic skintight outfit was white and light blue, with a red belt and light blue boots. Now the outfit is light gray and black, the belt is still red, but in a darker shade, and the boots are black. Ironic, considering that under X.A.N.A.'s control, William wore a black, dark grey and red outfit. He still has his big sword, his Zweihänder, as a weapon. The blade is still silver, but it now has black markings and the handle, once red, is also black. A sinister memory left by X.A.N.A.
As William gets close enough to the robot to be targeted, I see the red energy ball. I approach it, but it moves away from me. I call to it, talk to it, as if it were a living being. I ask for its help. The red ball continues to move away, so I follow it.
After some time, the red energy ball stops moving. I manage to take it in my hands and, suddenly, it seems to melt, entering my flesh. I let out a cry of surprise, an electric current flows all over my virtual avatar, then nothing.
Jeremy's voice asks me what I am doing and who I was talking to. He doesn't seem to have detected the red ball. I give him a simple "nothing" as an answer and go back to the Tower.
There, I find William and the robot has disappeared. I ask him if he destroys it. William says “no”, that it destroyed itself. William also tells me that a strange purple energy ball appeared. The ball came down on him and disappeared. I wanted to ask him if it had gone into him, but I didn't want Jeremy to hear me so I kept quiet.
Jeremy's voice asks me to enter the Tower. He wants to try something to deactivate it and he needs my help. I am planning to go in when William asks me to go in, too. I tell William it's impossible. I am the only one who can get into an activated tower.
William: "But if you hold my hand, maybe... Then with my former possession by X.A.N.A., maybe it's possible I can..."
That's what he told me. I see in his eyes that he is determined, so I take his hand and enter the Tower. William manages to enter, too. In the Tower, I beckon him to follow me and our bodies rise for the upper platform. There, in front of the small blue screen, I wait for Jeremy's instructions. Suddenly, William tells me something very curious.
William: "Hey, why don't you try Code MAVERICK?"
Aelita: "What? Code... ‘Maverick’?"
Wililam: "Yeah. M-A-V-E-R-I-C-K."
I find this very strange, especially since William doesn't know where he got the idea for this code, but I have nothing to lose. I put my hand on the small blue screen. My handprint appears, followed by "AELITA" and the word "CODE". I enter the code MAVERICK. William asks me to go outside and see if the Tower is deactivated. I do so and the Tower's aura is now white. I tell Jeremy that the Tower is deactivated. He checks, remotely, the college computer system and everything is back to normal. Jeremy devirtualizes William and I, then we meet in the lab.
After giving an update on the situation, Jeremy tells us that not only is X.A.N.A. back, but it seems to have a new ally. The Lyoko Warriors are officially back. Jeremy doesn't want William to join us, much to his regret. William is the first to leave the factory, looking glum. We leave the factory in turn and head back to the college. Jeremy would have liked to stay and try to figure out how to detect these new activated towers and the new enemy, the blue, black and yellow robot with a red eye, but he couldn't be caught skipping class.
Here you go, dear diary. That was the day we found out about X.A.N.A.'s return. Since then, we have had to deal with our lives as students as well as X.A.N.A.’s attacks and its ally, whose identity we don’t know.
I wonder if the strange things that are happening to me (the headaches, the flash visions, etc.) are due to this strange red energy ball. It can't be X.A.N.A. or I would be possessed. I don't hear voices in my head either.
Well, time is running out and it's time for lunch. See you later!
Dear Diary,
No matter how much I insist, Jeremy still doesn't want William to join us. He even finds it suspicious that he knew about this strange code, the code Maverick. This code that I have to use now to disable the Towers with two-colored auras. I'm sorry to type this, dear diary, but I think Jeremy is stupid. William wants to help us, and even if that strange purple energy ball had entered him, that doesn't mean he's possessed and will betray us. In any case, William doesn't behave like a possessed person. I try to talk to him as often as possible, but he is distant with me. I don't understand why.
Well, I have to get back to class. See you tomorrow, dear diary.
Dear Diary,
I spoke with William today. He seemed quite nervous, but refused to tell me why.
Aelita: "Come on, you can tell me. Is it because of the purple energy ball?"
William: "Yeah. It got into me and ever since... weird… things have been happening to me..."
Aelita: "Like headaches and visions as fast as a flash?"
Wililam: "Yes, how—"
Aelita: "The same thing is happening to me! I haven't told the rest of the group."
Wililam: "WHAT? Why?"
Aelita: "I don't want to worry them, especially Jeremy. He's been depressed since X.A.N.A. came back. His new 'friend' is giving him a hard time. Jeremy is unable to program a detector for the Green and Purple Auras activated Towers on the supercomputer. As for the new enemies, the supercomputer is still unable to detect them and our weapons are ineffective against them!"
Wiliam: "Woah, that sucks!"
Aelita: "Yes, fortunately, they are rarely there. Most of the time, it's X.A.N.A. monsters that serve as our welcoming committee."
Wiliam: "Hmm."
Aelita: "William?"
Wiliam: "Yeah?"
Aelita: "How did you know about the Maverick code?"
William: "It just came to me, like an innate knowledge, but it didn't come from me. Aelita, I... There is something in me. I know it, I feel it. I don't want to go back to being X.A.N.A.'s minion or anyone else's!"
Aelita: "That won't happen. I also have an energy ball inside me, red in color, and I am not possessed!"
William: "Yes, but...! It's not the same."
Aelita: "It's not the same? How?"
William: "Me, I feel that it is an evil entity while you—"
Aelita: "You think I'm carrying an ‘ally’?"
William: "Yeah. Something like that."
Then Wiliam left, but before he told me the number zero. I wonder why.
Nothing abnormal happened during class. No X.A.N.A. attack on the horizon.
See you tomorrow, dear diary.
Dear Diary,
I woke up in the middle of the night. I have to tell you about my nightmare. It answers questions, while creating new ones.
I was on Lyoko, in Sector 5, at the Lyoko Heart’s room. William was also there, but something was wrong. His virtual outfit was different. It was a black, purple and gold armor. I had called him and he answered, but his voice was different. Evil and deeper.
William: "I am not William. Why don't you call him? I don't have time to waste on a weakling."
His eyes were different too. They were blue and empty.
Aelita: "What are you talking about?"
William then started shooting laser beams from his eyes.
I was hit and my virtual avatar crashed to the ground. I was breathless.
Entity possessing William: "YOU FOOL! Call him or I will destroy this world!"
He levitated William and was approaching the two protective barriers surrounding Lyoko's Heart. I could barely stand up.
Aelita: "Wait! Who must I call? And who are you?"
The evil entity, in anger, had immediately destroyed the first barrier.
Entity: "You know VERY WELL who I am! Your William told you!"
Aelita: "‘My’ William? I—"
The second barrier was quickly destroyed. I yell at the thing possessing William to stop.
Entity: "Then call him or—!"
Suddenly, the entity was silent and I heard William's voice. He had regained control!
William: "Zero... Call... him..."
Aelita: "What? Zero?"
William: "QUICKLY! Before Sigma... can... take... over... again…"
Aelita: "William, I don't understand! This ‘Sigma’, is he the one possessing you?"
William: "AHHHH! Sigma... and I... Merge… with X.A.N.A.?... You... and Zero... Odd... and Axl... Yumi... and Rock... Ulrich... and X... Together, all of you... you can all—"
William had started to scream again and his voice had become deep again.
Sigma-William: "Too late."
He had destroyed Lyoko’s Heart. Everything was gone and I woke up sweating.
Do you realize, dear diary? This nightmare reveals that X.A.N.A.'s mysterious ally is called Sigma. Has he merged with X.A.N.A.? There is also this Zero, an ally for us?, who would be in me (how? via the red energy ball?). Then there are "Odd and Axl," "Yumi and Rock," "Ulrich and X." Other allies against Sigma and X.A.N.A.? How to find them? How do we get them to "enter" Odd, Ulrich and Yumi? Then, most importantly, how to "call" them, as mentioned by Sigma-William in the nightmare? Besides, William is in danger of being possessed! I need to warn him and tell the rest of the group about this. As soon as possible. Our greatest battles as Lyoko Warriors are just beginning.
Aelita Schaeffer's Diary.
